Framed Monogram Letters

I had been wanting some letters for the wall in the baby's nursery. I only wanted three, for his initials, and of course I wanted them to match the rest of the decor. I also didn't want to spend a million dollars on them. And I preferred not to order them online, because I just really wanted to match the colors before committing to a purchase.

Wow, I'm kind of picky, huh?

Of course I couldn't find anything that met all those requirements. So I decided to make my own. And I took pictures of the process so that you can play along at home. Here we go.

Gather your materials:

Unfinished wooden letters and frames for each letter. You don't have to do the frames, I just thought they'd be cute framed. Instead of frames, you could do ribbon at the top for hanging or just add a picture hook to the back of the letter to hang to the wall.



Paint, Mod Podge, and sponge brushes. I ended up not using the colorful paint and instead only used white. You'll want paint for your frames, and also for the edges of the letters.



Patterned scrapbook paper, coordinating cardstock, pencil, and scissors.



Trace the letters upside down on the wrong side of the patterned scrapbook paper.



Cut out.



Paint the edges of your letters (don't forget the "holes" in the R like I did!) and your frames.



Remove the insert from the frame, and trace it onto the cardstock. Cut out.



Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the insert, press the cardstock onto it. Allow to dry.



Place inserts back into the frames.



Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the fronts of the letters. Carefully line up and press the patterned scrapbook paper cutouts to the letter. Apply another layer of Mod Podge to the fronts of the letters on top of the adhered scrapbook paper. Allow to dry.



Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the backs of the letters and carefully place onto the frame insert. Take care to line up everything right before letting the Mod Podge on the back of the letter to touch the cardstock. Press down and allow to dry. You may want to put something heavy on top of the letter just to make sure the letter fully sticks.



Then sit back and admire your handiwork. Cute, huh?
